Brodosplit has carried out numerous projects and collaborations in recent years to raise awareness for the protection and preservation of the environment. Therefore, we were happy to respond and support the realization of a unique multimedia exhibition entitled "Become the Guardian of the Adriatic", created by the students of the ecological group Zdravo More. This exhibition was created in cooperation with the Natural History Museum in Split.
Brodosplit is a proud partner of the "Rezolucija Zemlja" (Resolution Earth) project, the largest environmental project in Croatia. It was launched in 2022 by Večernji List to raise awareness for the protection and preservation of the environment. The project aims to encourage everyone to actively and consciously participate in environmental protection. It is worth mentioning that the project has been declared one of the top 5 most socially responsible projects in the world. This success underlines the importance of issues related to the environment, ecology, and environmental awareness. Photo by Robert Anić/PIXSELL.
The projects implemented in Brodosplit to improve energy efficiency will lead to the use of heating oil as an energy source being discontinued and the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere being significantly reduced. The introduction of heat pumps and recuperators with the reuse of exhaust air heat energy will reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, have a positive impact on the emission of greenhouse gases, and reduce the amount of harmful gases released into the atmosphere. The installation of a new lighting system with LED technology will lead to a reduction of CO2 emissions into the environment by 172.31 tCO2/year, but the construction of a photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 8100 KW will lead to a reduced need for electricity purchases.
If it were not for the systematic environmental care practiced in Brodosplit, the media would be full of images of the polluted Kaštela Bay, because it was precisely due to the intervention in the dam and the installation of floating protective dams that the fuel oil leaked into the sea on September 20. In 2022, the biggest environmental disaster in Croatia was prevented. This proved to be a key measure, as the fuel oil that leaked from the Admiral Sveto Letica-Barba barracks in Split was stopped precisely at these dams. If these dams had not been there and more than 40,000 liters of fuel oil had leaked, the entire Kaštela Bay would have been polluted.
An emission-free three-masted passenger sailing ship 63 meters long with electric motors as its main propulsion system is also under construction. With zero emissions and no carbon footprint on the environment. The batteries are recharged while sailing. There will be a class of passenger ships that can travel indefinitely and sail all the seas of the world. Work on the project began in February 2020 and was co-financed by EU funds as part of the call for proposals "Support for the development of new products and services in the framework of research and development actions (IRI) — Phase II".
