OCG-Data Buoy

BRODOSPLIT BUILDS INNOVATIVE DATA BUOY

At the shipyard in Split, OCG-Data was successfully manufactured an innovative buoy designed to collect data on biodiversity and metocean conditions, aimed at advancing research and sustainable marine management.

The project was carried out for Ocergie, the French subsidiary of the American company Ocergy, which develops advanced solutions for marine resource monitoring and environmental management. The pilot unit, part of the Blue Oracle project, is equipped with Lidar and underwater technology to assess ocean resources and characterize marine life.

The buoy has received approval from the French maritime prefect for deployment near the first floating offshore wind farms in the Occitanie region of France. The project is also supported by ADEME under the Future Investment Program.

- OCG-Data is not only part of our business plan but also the first step in developing the OCG-Wind FOW platform. Our ambition is to become a leader in Floating Wind Foundation Design for offshore wind farms, reflecting the progress we’ve made in recent years, said Dominique Roddier, CEO of Ocergy.

The buoy will gather crucial data on wind, ocean conditions, and marine life, helping improve understanding of the environment for floating offshore wind farms in the Mediterranean. Roddier also highlighted the importance of cooperation with Brodosplit:

- Despite financial challenges, we are extremely grateful for your team’s full commitment and the excellent work Brodosplit has delivered. Brodosplit can play a key role in the energy transition and in developing the FOW industry across Europe.

This project also strengthens Brodosplit’s strategic position as a reliable manufacturer of complex steel structures for offshore wind farms in Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean. In the coming years, new platform orders are expected, with annual steel construction deliveries exceeding 100,000 tons by 2030.
