Ston Bridge

Ston Bridge is a total of 485 meters long and 40 meters high, spanning over the Ston Bay and connecting the two tunnels - Polakovica and Supava. It has five piers and two abutments.

On the approach road to the Pelješac Bridge, one of the most demanding and valuable infrastructure projects in modern Croatia, Brodosplit installed the steel structure of Ston Bridge in just a month and a half.

The entire span consists of six segments, which were manufactured in Brodosplit’s large conditioned halls and transported by barge via the sea. This method significantly increases the quality and durability of the structure compared to construction from multiple smaller segments.

At the end of March 2022, the lifting and installation of the final segment of Ston Bridge was completed. The largest segment, 93.8 meters long (about the length of a football field) and weighing 323.30 tons, was installed using a Manitowoc mega crane with a 750-ton capacity, the heaviest load ever installed independently by a Croatian company.

We are pioneers in this part of Europe and possibly globally in executing 400-ton constructions in a controlled indoor environment, which are then installed as a single piece into the project. With a single crane, we can lift up to 750 tons, and using two cranes in tandem, even 1,000 tons.
