Prapratno Viaduct

The Prapratno Viaduct is 215 meters long and consists of five spans, with the longest span measuring 80 meters. Each span is divided into five segments, which were painted in controlled workshops after fabrication and transported by sea to the construction site. The largest segment is nearly 50 meters long and weighs 126 tons.

Brodosplit was contracted to fabricate, transport, and install the steel structure of the Prapratno Viaduct along the access road to the Pelješac Bridge. By the end of August 2021, the installation of the viaduct’s steel structure, weighing approximately 600 tons, was completed.

Segment details:

  • Segment (A) - length 41.04 m, weight 107.50 t
  • Segment (B) - length 37.16 m, weight 85.15 t
  • Segment (C) - length 45 m, weight 115.60 t
  • Segment (D) - length 40 m, weight 104.95 t
  • Segment (E) - length 48.80 m, weight 125.80 t

The segments were transported from the Split shipyard to the port of Prapratno by Jadrolinija ferry, and from the port to the installation site using Brodosplit’s self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) with high load capacity, temporarily closing roads along the route due to the oversized transport.

Brodosplit fabricated and painted the structure in its workshops, transported it to the construction site, and assembled the segments on-site by welding. Subsequently, the segments were positioned from east to west into their final locations using hydraulic cylinders and high-strength threaded rods.

This method of fabrication and installation ensured the required quality and durability of the structure, which is designed to meet a service life requirement of 100 years.

Through the Prapratno Viaduct project, Brodosplit continues to strengthen its position in the offshore/onshore market niche and is becoming an increasingly prominent manufacturer of complex steel structures.
