In mid-August, Brodosplit completed the installation of the steel section of the upper structure of the Prapratno Viaduct on the route of the access road to the Pelješac Bridge.
Complete production and assembly of the steel structure of the Prapratno Viaduct, 212 meters long and weighing approximately 600 tons, has been contracted with the Greek Avax. The maximum width between the two pillars is 50 meters. In the workshops, Brodosplit made and painted a structure made of 5 segments, transported the segments to the construction site, and welded the segments together on the construction site. They were then shifted by hydraulic cylinders and a high-grade threaded rod from east to west into their final position. This work was performed on the construction site by 30 professional workers and engineers.
The entire range consists of five segments which, after the manufacture, were painted in conditioned halls and transported by sea to the construction site. This method of fabrication and assembly has achieved the required quality and durability of the structure, which must meet the requirement for the durability of the structure of 100 years.
From the Brodosplit shipyard, the viaduct segments were delivered to the port of Prapratno by Jadrolinija ferry and were transported from the port to the construction site exclusively at night by high-capacity SPMT modular self-propelled transporters, with occasional road closures due to oversized transport. The largest segment is almost 50 meters long and weighs 126 tons.
In addition to the construction of the Prapratno Viaduct, Brodosplit has also contracted the construction, transport, and installation of the Ston Bridge, which will be located between the Polakovica and Supava tunnels, 800 meters from the Ston saltworks. The span structure of the bridge is 485 m long and weighs over 2,000 tons. Parts of this bridge have already been built, painted, and are ready for installation. The bridge will have five pillars and two abutments in the lower structure, and the steel parts will be mounted at a height of 38 meters. Parts of the upper structure of the bridge will be transported from the shipyard by barge, which will then be lifted by Brodosplit's Manitowoc 750T crane for mounting on pillars in their final position.
