From design to delivery

Shipbuilding industry BRODOSPLIT is the largest Croatian shipyard, located in the historic city of Split in the central part of the eastern Adriatic coast.

In recent years, Brodosplit's most recognized product on the world market is oil products tanker. Among various products of this type, a 65,000 DWT tanker class ICE -1A and 1B for the Concordia Maritime AB company (a member of Stena Group) has a special place. These are specially designed ships with highest level of environmental safety and the safety of navigation, with two separate engine rooms and a 30% increased payload compared to standard tankers of the same size. Tanker “Stena Paris “ from this series was recognized as Ship of the Year in its class by the British Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) in 2005.

Brodosplit is one of the few shipyards that can build this type of vessels, particularly in demand on the today's market for its sophistication and design especially created for sailing in icy areas. According to the market demand, further orders from the shipowners for this type of ships can be expected.

In a long line of award - winning ships that sailed from Brodosplit slipways, the latest one is “Mari Ugland “, oil product tanker with 74,999 DWT, also recognized as Ship of the Year in its class by the British Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) in 2008.

Among experts of industry, Brodosplit is well-known as a company that sells not only standard products, but produces “tailor-made“ ships. Working with clients from the very beginning, the shipyard's design team can design the ship according to very specific needs and desires of shipowners, and manufacturing department can successfully realize even the most demanding project, which is the biggest advantage of shipyard Brodosplit. Everything - from design to delivery - is done within the shipyard.

In this context, two special tankers for Greek clients are particularly interesting. In 2007, Split shipyard delivered the last of two identical ships with 2000 DWT, a combination between tanker and ro-ro ship. The ships were to simultaneously fulfill two important functions: transport of oil products from the mainland to Greek islands, and transport of the trucks which would continue distribution of the fuel across the islands. This was the first design of this type in the world.

During the nineties, Brodosplit delivered many bulk carriers and various other types of ships for different purposes, all designed and built according to clients' specifications.

In the late eighties and early nineties, four car-paessenger ferries were delivered to Baltic shipping companies Viking Line and Sealink. American maritime magazine “Maritime Reporter and Engineering News“ declared three of these ships (“Amorella “, “Isabella “, “Frans Suell“) as Ships of the Year in 1988, 1989 and 1992.

The latest Brodosplit's newbuilding 468 is on the same track: it is a sophisticated ro-pax (ship for passengers and vehicles transport) which is being built for French client, company CMN. Due to the specific requirements that must be fulfilled considering the docking port and multi-purpose, Nwbg. 468 is one of the most complex shipbuilding projects so far.

Project for French client shows the basic business orientation of Brodosplit shipyard towards complex ships, with a substantial and continuous operation of company's management in rationalization of the construction process and shortening of delivery deadlines in order to maintain a competitive position on the international market.

Innovation of our experts in the construction of sophisticated ships of various kinds - passenger ships, containers ships, cargo ships, tankers, or basically, anything the client needs – is the main feature and the strongest point of Brodosplit as a successful and world known shipyard.
