Brodosplit donated rings for ‘Alka’ competition

04/08/16 - For the past three centuries, natives from Sinj have been cultivating the idea of patriotism and courage their ancestors demonstrated in 1715's victory over Turks with their traditional "Alka" competition. Alka became a symbol of Sinj.

However, not many people know that the actual alka ring is made in Brodosplit. To support the tradition, Brodosplit donates 5 rings for a 301st Alka competition that is held from August 5 to August 7 2016.

Brodosplit's workshop 'Tools room' has produced the alka rings by demanding documentation, that is required of highest quality steel with two hoops and common center, heat processed and milled on the universal pod. The alka ring is positioned at a height of 332 centimetres, if measuring the distance from the centre of alka to the ground. It is located in the middle of the track, 160 metres from the start or the so called “Biljeg” from where the race begins. The race finishes at the top of the racecourse, the total length of which is about 280 metres.

Minimum 11 and maximum 17 alkars the spearmen, including the commander (alajčauš), take part in the Alka competition. In each race the alkars run on horseback in the sequence determined by the Duke at the commander’s proposal. From the troop of squires chieftain, in consultation with squires and alkars, selects a squire to each alkar who helps him during the competition.

The Alka competition is carried out so that the alkar riding on the horse in full gallop throws his spear into the alka which hangs in the middle of the rope stretched horizontally between two pillars stuck at each side of the racecourse.

Brodosplit Synergy for Regional Development

4/09/14 - Besides Neum area, Bosnia and Hercegovina has had its way to the sea through shipbuilding and Brodosplit. What is the secret of their many years long connection and needs of Split Shipyard for products and services provided by Bosnian companies, was the topic of Open Door Days, organized on 3 September 2014 in Sarajevo by DIV Group and under the auspices of Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Transport of Bosnia and Hercegovina.

Today practically with no influence, and once quite developed metallurgic industry of Bosnia and Hercegovina, was supplying Croatian shipyards with lot of equipment and services. Before the expansion of Chinese market, ships built in Brodosplit contained various metal constructions, steel castings, rudders, flanges, etc., so it can be said that success of ships from Split Shipyard reflected quality of companies from Bosnia and Hercegovina. These very tradition and experience of Bosnian and Hercegovinian school of making quality metallurgic equipment motivated management of DIV Group to send an invitation for participation in joint project of revitalizaion of once powerful metallurgic industry of Bosnia and Hercegovina to interested companies and individuals.

Building of railway bridge at the entrance to Mostar in 1995 and/or buses for hydroelectric power plant Višegrad and hydroelectric power plant Rama are examples of good connections between the companies in the region. Besides products, connectedness showed itself for decades in labour force as well, since it is known that quality grinders, welders, locksmiths, pipe workers, painters, sander operators come from Bosnia and Hercegovina.

Today's authority and trust that many clients give to Brodosplit experts are a result of many years of successfull work and high quality of different production assortment. Split Shipyard builds very complicated and demanding steel constructions besides ships in a way that every shipbuilding and non-shipbuilding deal is economically and financially viable.

The project of building three wind power parks above Kupres and Tomislavgrad, currently developed with partners in Bosnia and Hercegovina, is a model of connecting and realizing joint business interests. Wind energy is at the moment the most profitable of alternative energy sources and the one with the largest potential in the short term period. Climate changes on one side, and growth of new market of alternative energy sources on the other side, stimulate global projects of exploitation of energy of sun, wind, water…

- In times of more and more expensive energy sources and increased environment pollution, energy efficiency is put forward as necessity in all sectors of human activity. The need for renewable energy sources grows with each day, and with DIV Group and Brodosplit investment has additional cost effectiveness, Tomislav Debeljak, Brodosplit Chief Executive Officer, pointed out.

Gathering of designers in Brodosplit

18/07/14 - At the initiative of Brodosplit, on 17 July 2014, a Round Table was held in Shipyard with leading Croatian shipbuilding designer companies. Advantages of synergistic approach in realization of joint business interests were pointed out at the event.

Domestic know-how, recognized and appreciated abroad, that is now disconnected, has opportunity to work jointly, each business entity according to its own specialty, and to participate in design of modern vessels, equipment or off-shore installations, from foundation to detailed workshop solutions and thus realize added value for its work.

It was concluded that by sharing of resources, knowledges and design solutions is possible to strengthen entire Croatian offer, make it more competitive, not only in the sense of design, but in creation and production of its own finsihed shipbuilding products.

Innovative domestic grinders confirmed in shipyard Brodosplit conditions

At the Brodosplit shipyard Ltd., on 13th January, 2010 was presented results of testing period, using pneumatic grinder of domestic business company Banko.

It is innovative domestic product, which was developed with financial and logistical support of Business Innovation Center of Croatia – BICRO, Ltd. and over two months, from September to November last year tested in industrial conditions, in the Brodosplit shipyard.

Just use the component in real production conditions was the most important link to quality assessment and competitiveness of the Banko tools in relation to many world-known brands of the same tools.

- We are glad that we could be a testing ground for one domestic product that the quality can be measured with the global competition - said at the conference Matko Balić, director of production in Brodosplit - and, it was one of the most important tasks, but also benefits the production of powerful system as it Brodosplit. No high domestic manufacturer of industrial conditions in fact there is no possibility or subjected to testing your product as required for quality assessment, on the other hand, such a product at some stage this may qualify for the large systems and thus achieve recognition in the market. Brodosplit time fulfills its purpose, which is often unjust in another plan, which is to be the flywheel for many small manufacturing companies in Brodosplit have a reliable partner in the development and eventual sale of products - said Balić.

Nikola Mikačić, Head of Investments, said that the pneumatic Banko grinders during the test "is not spared" – In the workshops of Brodosplit, tools because of the nature of work actually spend up to a maximum and I think that there was no better place to test the limits of endurance for the grinding of the Banko. Worked on them our most professional and most skilled workers who are now able to assess any problems and the tools we use technologically demanding stages of the work, like sanding prochrome tubes and small parts. On this basis, we estimate that the Banko grinders are quality alternative to existing tools.

With the announcement that the trial use of the grinders after in Brodosplit continue in all other Croatian shipyards, Aljoša Bošković, Director of the company Banko, announced this year and the beginning of penetration on foreign markets – at the end of February on a large international trade fair of tools in Köln, organize the first international presentation of Banko grinders. For some European markets, including the German market, but vendors have agreed, and we expect that, after the fair, thanks to references obtained in the tests, and others appear interested partners for the European market.

During the year of the monitoring by Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) and commercial banks are planning to increase production capacity in accordance with the initial announcements about the demand for our products - said Aljoša Bošković.

Dalibor Marijanović, director of Croatian Business - Innovation Center Ltd.(BICRO) said pneumatic grinders project as a positive example of cooperation between the scientific and the private sector where BICRO financed the project of company Banko with 7.6 million kuna, and a further 3.6 million invested in prototyping technically advanced version of the tool. – I am extremely happy as this is, the final stage proved that we recognize and support the development of technically superior products that may find wide application in industry. I believe that success in development and expected success in the market Banko grindes, is guideline for other innovative entrepreneurs who support the path from idea to product etabliranog can contact the Croatian Business - Innovation Center, - Marijanović said.

Pneumatic Banko grinders uses an innovative lamella machine, designed and constructed in accordance with all known safety regulations and the latest technological achievements in continuous use in the harshest working conditions. Compared with pneumatic grinders world's leading manufacturers, the Banko grinders has increased grinding efficiency and greater durability, allow production without pollution of the environment and produces less vibration due to work. In the Croatian Maritime Museum in Split, on January 12, 2010 was opened the exhibition to models of ships and archival materials that illustrate the development of shipbuilding in Split in 19th and 20 century.

The exhibition is titled "From bracera to tankers" and it is, they want to put the visitors an insight into all models of ships in the last 200 years built in Split - bracere, boats, the first metal boat built in Split, war ships, tankers, ferries and passenger ships. Bracera is the name of a traditional sailing ship on the east coast of the Adriatic which can be run and paddles.

- This is the first exhibition in Croatia which testifies to the development of shipbuilding in a shipbuilding center - said the director of the Croatian Maritime Museum Stjepan Lozo and added that he would be open by the end of this year's tourist season and will be part of the tourist offer of Split. Shipbuilding in Split is not only the industry and products. It is a powerful part of the identity of the city and its people. Until the First World War Naval Architecture in Split was not particularly significant. After the war, became the focus of Split shipbuilding and climbs toward the meaning of relevant terms in the world - said the director of Lozo at the opening.

The exhibition was opened by Nansi Ivanisević, Head of Culture Split City Administration. In her speech, stressed that "the marine and shipbuilding industry part of the identity of Split," and that it is necessary to educate younger generations about the history of shipbuilding that she would not be forgotten. Without added that it was "totally and cultural value of" history of shipbuilding.

Croatian Maritime Museum curator Gordana Tudor said that this exhibition seeks to show Split shipbuilding excellence.

Exhibits of the exhibition showing a range of Naval Architecture in Split, which covers a period of up to 200 years. Since the fall of the Venetian Republic over the period of the Monarchy, two of Yugoslavia and the independent Croatia.

In the great hall of the place was captured by many models, such as bracere "Dinka," the ship from the mid-19th century, models of the steam tug "Konjic", the first iron ship built in the bay Supaval 1936th years and that explains senior curator Gordana Tudor, considered the beginning of modern shipbuilding in Split.

- Through 200 years of Split was the 15 shipyards, small and large. Mention the shipyard, "Ivanko" and "Košćina, who built sailing ships, logers. "Ivanko" is, say, 1906. built ship, "Hum," which we believe was the first steamboat built in Split. They were here shipyards "Pakmor" and "Jeričević, who built fast motor boats and yachts. "Pakmor" also rented boats and so dealt with nautical tourism, and the late 30s of the last century, built the body of trucks for autoindustry "Ford," says curator Tudor interesting details from history, adding that the back 1802nd Split was even 12 carpenters.

Walking among the colorful models, finds and contemporary ships. There is a huge tanker model (256 meters long!) "Jawaharlal Nehru", whose godfather 1969th was Jovanka Broz.

- The first boat which shipyard Brodosplit built for foreign markets was a multi-purpose cargo ship "Cruzeiro do Sul" 1958th for Switzerland company "Ocean Shipping". The entire production from the shipyard 1962nd, 1965th and 1969th year was for the foreign clients.

Enticing views of the first model ship that was built by the Split shipyard. This is a boat, "Rosa de Foneseca" built for Brazil 1962nd year. A little further on a large wall painting on the sea crossing bulk carrier "Split" was built the same year. A little further is the huge model, car and passenger ferry ''Amorella'' built 20 years ago, which still sail the seas of the cold north of Europe.

At the exhibition there is also a lot of old photos, documents, original tools. Contribution to the exhibition gave shipyard Brodosplit borrow expensive models. The exhibition will last until the end of August 2010.

Reconstruction of steam tugboat ''VRIDNI''

The only preserved original steam tugboat from the 19th century on the east side of Adriatic Sea, named '' VRIDINI '', is passing through complete reconstruction. Doyen of Croatian shipbuilding sailed her first voyage in the time when Emperor Franjo Josip was sailing the Adriatic cost. She survived five states, wore five flags, but destiny wanted that her sailing life ends in city of Split where she spent the greatest part of her life.

Reconstructed hull, downloaded superstructure and wooden deck, 115 years old ''Vridni'' is situated in front of horizontal slipway of shipyard Brodosplit, near by grand halls.

Hull repair

This time ''Vridni'' will be reconstructed completely - said Filip Bosančić, Director’s deputy for non- shipbuilding activity. – ‘’Vridni‘’ is outstanding artefact of history and will be reconstructed by rules of curator profession and instructions of Croatian Maritime Museum. Her hull is from steel of low thickness, with fast decay because is near sea. Very important is to repair the hull, fill up all holes and repair damages under which we will lay cover steel. For repair we will use thermo stable humidity and son proof cement. Works could be finished for six months period, said Bosančić.

Reconstruction of ship, built in city of Kiel, is being done in cooperation with Croatian Restoration Institute, under Ministry of Culture and Croatian Maritime Museum in city of Split.

Until World War II ''Vridni'' worked like tugboat in harbour Split and she was damaged in German bombing, but repaired in Island of Vis in 1969. From Brodosplit shipyard she goes to nemesis pension after what she is exhibited in shipyard’s park.

- ''Vridni'' has deeply marked Split harbour history and she is outstanding monument of seafaring. I hope that her reconstruction will end until shipyard gets a new owner, said Stjepan Lozo, Manager of Croatian Maritime Museum.

After reconstruction process is finalized, she will be exposed in front of east entry in shipyard.
