On June 15, 1990 the first engine BRODOSPLIT-MAN B&W L23/30H was delivered between representatives of the shipyard, owner, classification society and Diesel Engine Factory.
The engine type was 8L23/30H, power 1040 kW. It`s factory number was 492, and it was one of three auxiliary engines that were built for Newbuilding 367 - M/V 'Granite', the first in a series of four tankers for the Norwegian orderer.
This year is 20 anniversary of the Diesel Engine Factory (TDM) at the Split shipyard productions licensed powerful ship engines MAN Diesel & Turbo L23/30H.
Preparations for the introduction of engine type L23/30H in a program of Diesel Engine Factory had begun two years before the first delivery. The engine is an integral part of the diesel-generator sets and represents one in a series of auxiliary engine, which Brodosplit Diesel Engine Factory traditionally has in the production program and with which equipes Newbuilding.
Thanks to the successful cooperation between the shipyard and the Diesel Engine Factory, 20th year of the factory is marked by assembling four MAN L23/30 engines on Newbuilding 469 equipped with that type of motor, made in Brodosplit.
In two decades, 167 identical four-stroke engines were produced. Licence for the MAN-stroke machines engine was obtained in 1967th. After installation, on each of four of those 24 tons heavy and almost three meters high motors all water and fuel pipelines will be connected and deflexion will be measured. Each engine is 910 kW or 1237 horsepower. All together nearly five thousand horsemen.
- Brodosplit engines MAN B&W are 50 % made by Brodosplit workers. Everything is done under licencne documentation. Engine case is produced in shipyard. We produce stand, housing of the cylinder and cylinder heads. There should be no error, even a millimeter one. Each engine costs about two thousand working hours and is the 'last' design. Our engines are installed only on ships that launch from Brodosplit and Brodotrogir slipways. Ships and equipment belong to the most complex products that a man can make - said Baldo Butirić, director of the Diesel Engine Factory.
Over the past year Diesel Engine Factory made and technical advanced this type of engine in accordance to the technical documentation under license MAN Diesel. Engine meets the most stringent applicable gaseous emissions regulations for Tier II.
To the satisfaction of shipyard, Diesel Engine Factory, ship owners and crews of ships, engine type L23/30H proved as an excellent choice on the ships. .
