SORTA - Symposium theory and practice of shipbuilding

Split, September 27, 2018 – SORTA - Symposium theory and practice of shipbuilding, in memoriam of prof. Leopold Sorta, which has been held for 45 years, has started today in the organization of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, Split.

Published: 27.09.2018.

From 27-29 September through scientific and professional activities in the field of shipbuilding, the symposium will bring together all Croatian shipbuilding experts, and even some from other parts of the world.

- This year's SORTA is unfortunately being held in challenging and difficult moments for the survival of Croatian shipbuilding as a strategic industry in our country, therefore it is more challenging for us to promote through symposium and in general gatherings of this kind the importance of shipbuilding and technical sciences for development and the prosperity of our society. I hope that the conclusions from the symposium will not only be a statement of the current state but that they will really define actions and ways to recover the Croatian shipbuilding and return it to the world scene. In this context, Brodosplit wants to be in the real sector of 'torchbearers' and an active partner, therefore we open our doors to young scientists, entrepreneurs and students, offer them infrastructure and financial support in the realization of their development ideas, which ultimately means the development of our society – said Zoran Kunkera, Board member and CEO of Brodosplit Shipyard.

Shipbuilding has a special status, both in the EU and the Far East countries, as well as in Croatia. Taking into account existing experience and the development and scientific capacities of Croatian shipbuilding in general, it can be said that the future of Croatian shipbuilding is in the construction of sophisticated ships of high added value.
