Performance of the general exercise in order to assess Port Facility Security Plan’s measures and procedures

Split, 14 December 2017 – During the launch of the passenger ship and dropping the left side anchor, an anchor chain rupture occured as well as a series of unforeseen work accidents that injured a smaller number of workers involved in dropping anchors. Several shipyard workers were severely injured and needed to be saved as soon as possible while at the same time the new building was unstoppably moving towards the rock cliff...

Fortunately, this is not a description of real events, but depiction of regular exercise carried out in order to assess the Port Facility Security Plan’s measures and procedures, which took place today in Split shipyard’s international port.

The members of the National Protection and Rescue Directorate 112 Regional Office Split, The National Maritime Rescue Coordination Center Rijeka 195, Operational communication centre of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia, Split Port Authority, Split-Dalmatia Department of Maritime and Airport Police, Marine Police Station, Police directorate of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia and Proffesional Fire Brigade in Business Brodosplit have participated in the exercise.

Exercise involving a series of accidents - unforeseen working conditions and evacuation of workers from the new building was a practical test of the safety conditions in Split shipyard’s port, and verification of workers emergency response training, coordination of actions in the occurrence of events with adverse consequences for people and property as well as cooperation and transfer of information with other institutions and specialized companies and organized forces, all for the purpose of detection, monitoring, remediation and elimination of any possible crisis situation that may occur in a protected area.

 

Headquarters composed of representatives of all the accident-solving departments concluded that the exercise had been carried out successfully, and that Split shipyard’s internation port is safe for international traffic.
