Brodosplit Shipyard Ltd has century long tradition in building ships on the east coast of Adriatic. Today's Shipyard on its location starts to develop from 1932 and today is largest Croatian shipyard. This is the place where from biggest tankers were launched from our slipways, with maximum deadweight of 160.000 tons. Future of Shipyard in Split is based on long tradition and expertise of our shipbuilders in building sophisticated various types of ships: passengers, container, tankers, bulkers, war ships and other based on desires of world wide clients. Book of orders reaches in 2010 and testifies best on our existence in past and future.

Quality personnel is the base of every progress and therefore Shipyard specially takes care on students who will tomorrow need to handle much worthy and demanding jobs. Who takes care about his future will educate for some profession in shipbuilding. Only educated and efficient personnel can lead into safe future, so go ahead and become shipbuilder!

One can choose the basic working place in shipyard – shipbuilder. Most successful students on the end of their schooling we give the possibility of further education and progress in field.

Who is shipbuilder?

Shipbuilder has responsible role of development, mounting and completion of metal ship. Therefore one should have finished secondary school in duration of 3,5 years. This person can easily gain experience necessary for individual work. Shipbuilder is responsible for building and outfitting of ship's hull by:

- Developing and implementing elements, sections and blocks into the ship's hull – basic shipbuilding products
- Coordinating and implementing of various equipment in every phase of building.

Familiarization is being done through workshop drawings, sketches and other technical documentation. Person works independently or as a part of team of two or three workers. During his schooling one needs to gain skills to operate with hand and machinery treatment of materials (welding, cutting, grinding etc), use and maintenance of tools, machines, devices during building. One needs to be fully familiar with technology of building metal ship. Job is being done in workshops and outside and inside the ship with necessary usage of work protection aids.

This kind of student needs to be prepared for complete expertise in this field and needs to be prepared for lifetime learning.

Shipbuilder's competencies:

• well trained student can recognize the sources of danger, can use the rules of safety and environment protection, uses means safe for work, keeps his health and secures the safe environment,
• purchase, basic characteristics and usage of main materials for shipbuilding,
• reading of technical drawings and developing work out example according them,
• drawing of simple sketches and drawings,
• regular usage of necessary measuring and control instruments in order to use them in practice,
• bases of accounting,
• work on automatic, numerically guided machines and robots,
• basic knowledge on corrosion and anti-corrosion protection,
• basic knowledge on procedure and work with hand and machine treatment of metals,
• basic knowledge on extensive machinery and devices for shipbuilding,
• manages and operates with welding machines,
• operates with machines for gas cutting, grinding, heating, flattening and welding,
• basic knowledge on elements and areas of ship's hull and outfitting,
• knowledge of methods, techniques and schedule of preparation and operations for building ship,
• equipped for independent development of ship's elements,
• equipped for connecting elements into a unit, section or block,
• equipped for development of elements of pipelines and locksmith outfitting, blocks of outfitting etc,
• builds in elements of pipelines and locksmiths outfitting in section,
• equipped for mounting of sections on slipway according to the appropriate documentation,
• basic knowledge on control and defecation in shipbuilding,
• usage of classification society regulations applied for developing and mounting of sections,
• uses the necessary documentation and other sources of information (Internet) for new technologies and field updates,
• familiar with procedures in ships repair,
• familiar with bases of business and production system of Brodosplit,
• familiar with basics of management control system according to the ISO 9001: 2000,
• familiar with basic structure of building ship costs and ways how to influence on them.

With contract for scholarship chosen students who apply for above stated places in year 2009/2010 will be provided with scholarships under following conditions:

• 500 Kuna for 1st and 2nd year,
• 700 Kuna for 3rd and 4th year of regular schooling with additional yearly attractive award of 1000 Kuna for very good and 2000 Kuna for excellent school achievement,
• protective working means,
• together with scholarship we ensure practice during schooling,
• at the end of school we provide job, salary and obligating daily and weekly rest together with holidays.

Condition for regular receval of scholarship is regular attendance on theoretical and practical classes (taking into consideration reasonable absence).

Off course, all students who receive scholarship have to deliver certificate on psycho-psychological capability for work in chosen occupation.
